What is the relationship between bending radius and plate thickness in CNC Press Brake?

In the actual sheet metal bending processing production activities, the bending angle of the bending workpiece has to be calculated, that is, the sheet metal bending radius is a value required in the sheet metal drawing, and it is difficult to determine how large this value is in the actual processing. In fact, this sheet metal bending radius has a certain relationship with the material thickness, the pressure size of the bending machine, and the width of the lower die slot of the bending tool. What is the specific relationship, let’s study it today.

Experience in actual sheet metal processing shows that generally when the plate thickness is not more than 6mm, the inner radius of sheet metal bending can be directly used as the radius when bending.

When the plate thickness is greater than 6mm and less than 12mm, the inner bending radius is generally 1.25 times to 1.5 times the plate thickness. When the plate thickness is not less than 12mm, the bending radius of the plate is generally taken 2 times to 3 times the plate thickness.

When the bending radius is R=0.5, the general sheet metal thickness T is equal to 0.5mm. If a radius size larger or smaller than the plate thickness is required, it needs to be processed with a special die.

When the sheet metal drawing requires the sheet metal to be bent at 90°, and the bending radius is particularly small, the sheet metal should be processed by planing the groove first, and then sheet metal bending. Special upper and lower dies for CNC Press Brake dies can also be processed.

The radius of sheet metal bending has a certain relationship with the size of the width of the slot of the lower die of the bending machine.

Through a large number of experiments in sheet metal processing, it is found that there is a certain relationship between the width of the lower die slot of the bending die and the size of the bending radius. For example, if a 1.0mm sheet is bent with an 8mm slot width, the bending radius is ideally R1.

If you use 20 mm slot width to bend, because the bending upper die are downward movement, stretching the depth of the plate to a certain angle. Then we know that the 20 mm wide slot area is larger than the 8 mm wide slot area, in bending with 20 mm wide slot, the stretching area also becomes larger at the same time R angle will also increase.

Therefore, we try to use narrow slots for bending when there is a requirement for the bending radius of the plate and without damaging the CNC Press Brake tooling.

Under normal circumstances, it is recommended that the standard plate thickness and slot width into a ratio of 1:8 to operate. The minimum can not be less than the plate thickness and slot width into a ratio of 1:6 to operate, sheet metal bending can be appropriately small, not less than the plate thickness and slot width of 1:4 ratio to operate. Recommendation: If the strength allows, the method of planing the slot before bending is preferred to produce a small sheet metal bending radius.

The bending radius of sheet metal processing is related to the material thickness and the width of the bending slot. The simple and convenient, rougher method is
Generally when the plate thickness is not more than 6mm, the bending radius inside the plate during bending can be directly taken as the radius by the plate thickness dimension. When the plate thickness is more than 6mm and less than 12mm, the bending radius inside the plate is generally 1.25 times to 1.5 times of the plate thickness, and when the plate thickness is not less than 12mm, the bending radius inside the plate is generally taken as 2 times to 3 times of the plate thickness.
We believe that the CNC Press Brake in the actual bending parameters according to their own sheet metal processing plant press brake pressure and bending notch calculation use.
